Ignacio León y Escosura. (Oviedo, 1834-Toledo, 1901). Spanish realist painter who cultivated the theme of gender and orientalist. He was commander of the orders of Charles III and Queen Isabella and artistic delegate of Spain in the Universal Exhibition of Chicago, in 1893. He trained at the School of Fine Arts of La Coruña, where he was a pupil of Juan Pérez Villamil. After that he moved to Madrid to complete his studies at the College of Fine Arts Federico de Madrazo. Since 1859 he lived in Paris. “Autorretrato en el Patio” is one of my favorite paintings by León y Escosura. This work of art can be seen in the Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias.
